She hates it because the doorbell rings EVERY 3 MINUTES.
She hates it because I keep the gate up, so she can't come to the door with me. I know she would never try to bite a kid...I keep her blocked so she doesn't run out & get hit by a car.
But, the biggest reason of all?
She hates it because I won't let her eat any candy.
Matt had to work late tonight, so it was just me & Maisy & 10 POUNDS OF CANDY.
No joke.
Our 1st Halloween in our house (2004), I learned that one measly bag of snack-size candy bars wasn't going to cut it. I ran out in 10 minutes.
Every Halloween since then, I double my candy inventory. It lasted longer than 10 minutes, but not much more than 30.
So, this year, I got smart & bought two, 5-pound bags of a mix of candy, like Laffy Taffy's, Sweet Tarts, Jaw Breakers & Nerds.
10 pounds lasted 2 hours.
We had a steady stream of kids (AND ADULTS) from 6:30 to 8:30pm. There were cars still coming down my street, but I had to close up shop. No more goods to give out.
For the 1st time this year, I actually had kids PUT THEIR GRUBBY LITTLE HANDS IN THE CANDY BOWL & TAKE WHAT THEY WANTED.
Even their parents did it.
One kid didn't want the Laffy Taffy I was about to give him & he said, "Ew. I don't like those! Can I have some Nerds instead?"
I would expect that from like a 4 or 5 year old, but this kid was AT LEAST 10 or 11.
When I handed him the Nerds, he didn't even say thank you.
Ugh.

I live off the beaten path, so I only had 8 trick-or-treaters, my neices and nephew and some close friends' kids.
I had plenty of candy, but all the kids took the Orbit gum packs that I had in the bowl. I figured some would take it, but not all of them. One little boy was actually excited that there was gum to pick!
Every house we went to that had a dog, the dog would go crazy while we were there. We went to one house that had a cat. The cat was sitting on the back of their couch and barely raised its head!
The dogs were like "Candy! People! Gimme gimme!" The cat was like "psssh, whatever...."
